GAMEPLAY UPDATES

– By Aleco, Lead Designer

Today’s gameplay updates cast a wide net. We have some exciting updates to the super shop, brand new stages in both Act 1 and Act 2, buffs and improvements to a large number of A+S Rank Modifiers, and a healthy number of balance changes for both Heroes and enemies.

System Updates

New Stage Designs

  • There are 2 new stage designs in Act 1 which can be found during the final 2 fights of the act.

  • There are 5 new stage designs in Act 2 which can be found across all fights in the act.

  • A small number of existing stage designs in both Act 1 and Act 2 had their enemy configurations and positionings updated. Notably, stages will no longer contain more than one Plant Monster.

  • Gameplay Difficulty

    • Difficulty A - Slightly increased the durability of enemies in Act 2.

    • Difficulty SS - Slightly increased the deadliness of enemies in Act 2. Slightly increased the difficulty of the first 2 fights after the Turtle in Act 1.

  • Enemy Changes

    • Lizard - Slightly increased offensive stats.

    • Snake - Reduced the width of their AoE effect.

    • Mushroom Fire Mage - Slightly reduced their offensive stats.

    • Poison and Frost Dragons - Increased the amount of offensive stats they receive compared to the Fire Dragon.

    • Hydra - Slightly reduced offensive stats.

  • Relics and the Super Shop

    • Note: We made a few changes to the Super Shop in order to make it easier and more reliable for players to increase their max team size.

    • The Super Shop now contains 3 relics per shop:

      • One guaranteed Legendary Relic that does not impact team size.

      • One guaranteed Legendary Quest Relic that impacts team size. The cost of these relics have been reduced from 40 Shards to 30 Shards.

      • One non-Legendary relic.

    • The cost of the first re-roll in the Super Shop was reduced from 8 to 7.

    • The difficulty of a few of the easier team-size quests was slightly increased.

    • Added one new Legendary non-quest relic:

      • Name: Shattering Shields

      • Description: Whenever a Hero's Shields are damaged, deal 100% of the damage back to the source.

    • Added one new Legendary quest relic:

      • Name: Victory Mandate

      • Quest Description: Win 4 fights.

      • Quest Reward: Increase your team size by 1 (Max: 5).

Rank Modifier Balance and Excitement Pass

We did a major pass on Rank Modifiers this week with the goal of elevating the overall power level and excitement level of Rank Modifiers. There are too many Rank Modifier changes to list out individually in the patch notes, but players will find that the vast majority of the changes were made to underperforming or low popularity Rank Modifiers and that only a few changes were made to popular and powerful Rank Modifiers.

Hero Balance Changes

  • Zuri

    • Note: Zuri was the top performing Hero last patch. Her new-and-improved Poisonous spec was the main culprit behind that, but her base kit is also quite strong right now and could use a small nudge.

    • Base Stats

      • -2 Defense

      • -.01 Base Attack Speed

    • The Poisonous

      • Base HP/S Max: 50->25

      • HP/S Max Crit Scaling: 100%->75%

  • Ming

    • Note: Enlighted has been a standout spec for Ming, and in looking for potential changes to it I noticed a bug where it was giving 1 second more of Rush duration increase than intended. The Searing is in a good spot right now, but The Balanced needs a small buff to bring it in line with Ming’s other specs.

    • The Enlightened

      • Fixed a bug where it was giving 1 more second of Rush duration increase than intended.

    • The Balanced

      • Rush Duration: 10->13

  • Karsu

    • Note: The Storm was a major power outlier last patch. The Breeze could use a little love.

    • The Storm

      • Additional arrow base % damage: 5->1.

      • Additional arrow attack scaling: 20%->15%.

    • The Breeze

      • The effect which buffs other Duelists is no longer backup-only. It now also triggers at the start of combat if Karsu is in on the board.

  • Gustav

    • Note: Gustav’s base kit was slightly overperforming, while his Investor spec stood out as slightly weaker than his others.

    • Blizzard (Signature Active Ability)

      • Base damage per tick: 15->10

      • Base shields per tick: 25->20

    • The Investor:

      • Shard cost per Investment stack: 5->4

  • Nyx

    • Note: The gap between The Spark and Nyx’s other specs made it the only “pickable” option for them. A mid-sized nerf to The Spark and a buff to their other two specs will hopefully better position them as a flexible Hero.

    • The Spark

      • Base Burn per attack: 3->2

      • Base Frost per attack: 2->1

      • Base Poison per attack: 1->0

    • The Keen

      • Base execute threshold: 10%->15%

    • The Predator

      • Starting Mana: 0->15

      • Max Mana: 55->50

      • Added Attack scaling to the ability (1% per 5 Attack).

      • Attack Speed scaling: 1% per 5->4 Attack Speed

  • Polen

    • Note: Earth’s Child was a small data outlier in the last patch.

    • The Earth’s Child

      • Frost inflicted per Magic: 1 per 25->30

  • Rowan

    • Note: Despite some buffs, Rowan’s win rate has continued to slip at higher difficulties. Players pick his Friend spec vastly more than his other two, which is an indicator that I might need to make some excitement-based changes to Rowan’s other specs in a future patch.

    • Hearty (Signature Passive Ability)

      • HP/S per Max Health: 125->100.

    • The Earthquake

      • -5 Max Mana

      • Base damage: 25->50

      • Max HP Damage ratio: 20%->25%

    • The Protector

      • Max damage per Max HP scaling: 200%->500%

      • Converted damage % of Shield from Attack-based to rank-based.

  • Aria

    • Note: The Resplendent became a bit weaker than intended with recent changes.

    • The Resplendent

      • Base Debuff increase percent: 10->15

  • Kai

    • Note: If you just look at the data for The Dauntless, Kai is in a great spot! His two other specs could use a bit more power though.

    • The Bold

      • Added “reduce Resolute Strike’s charge time by 1 second”.

    • The Heroic

      • Base shield % increase: 40->50

  • Logan

    • Note: Logan’s most popular spec is also his weakest. These changes are intended to buff the spec while more clearly establishing it a scaling and damage-dealing spec.

    • The Momentous

      • Permanent Attack gain: 12->15

      • Added 5 Crit gain (previously 0)

      • Mana gain 50% -> flat 40 (slight increase)

      • Removed the healing effect

  • Funke

    • Note: The previous buffs to The Detonator didn’t have as large of an impact as expected. The Blaze could also use a light touch to bring it more in line with The Stoked.

    • The Detonator

      • Base ticks: 5 -> 8

      • Ticks per rank: 5 -> 7

    • The Blaze

      • Base Burn: 10->25

  • Fiona

    • Note: I’m making her active ability hit that 2nd and 3rd ally more quickly, and slightly lowering the value of the Shield to compensate.

    • Vault Spark (Signature Active Ability)

      • Extra ally per Mana Regen interval: 15 -> 12

      • Base Shield amount: 250->225

  • Rip

    • Note: Just a small boost to Rip’s overall power level.

    • Bloodthirsty (Signature Passive Ability)

      • Attack Speed gain: 25 flat -> 2% of Max HP

    • The Brute

      • Crit scaling: 60%->75%

  • Dragomir

    • Note: I missed this during the changes to the mana system a few patches ago.

    • The Stalker

      • 40->70 mana per cast

  • Grace

    • Note: Grace is in a good overall spot, but needed a few QoL changes to make her feel even better.

    • The Generous

      • Added a second trigger at Stall 30.

    • The Provider

      • Now gives the correct amount of Crit and Mana Regen to Assassins and Mystics (was bugged to give too little).

  • Reyna

    • Notes: The Brawler is carrying a lot of Reyna’s success right now. I’ve tuned it to scale a bit more slowly but to provide higher highs once it does get going. The Boxer’s winrate was quite bad, so I’m taking a bigger swing on it to bring it in line with her other specs.

    • The Brawler

      • Bonus Attack per Shield: 10->12

      • Max damage Max HP threshold: 25->33%

      • Active ability Shield percent of damage: 70%->66%

    • The Boxer

      • Base bonus damage: 40->50

      • Base Burn: 2->3

      • Burn per Attack Speed threshold: 8->6

Bonus damage from this ability can now Crit.
